Monave started out with a simple loose mineral foundation formula. The benefits were clear; less ingredients, no oils, or waxes, no water, so almost negligible opportunity for irritation, or spoilage. The essence of mineral foundation isn’t simply that the colorants are minerals, but also, that the formula itself is comprised only of minerals, without any plant-based products. Even natural, organic plant-based ingredients can stimulate adverse reactions, since each woman’s body is unique.
But over the years, we found that there were customers who just didn’t want to fool with a powder foundation, women (and men) whose skin not only didn’t mind the added waxes and oils that are used to formulate creams, but whose skin welcomed them, due to a dry climate, or skin prone to dryness.
So, we started mixing our loose mineral foundation shades right into our moisturizers. It was that simple. Our mineral foundation powder blends are pure pigment, so, they blend very easily into any medium, including water, cream, serums, or aloe vera gel. Our customers have been very creative over the years, and have hand-blended (with a cream-dipped finger) their favorite moisturizer, or ours, with their matching Monave natural mineral foundation to create an ‘on-the-spot’ cream foundation.
Our three moisturizer bases, that we use to make our liquid foundations are: Vegan Rose Daily Moisturizer, Oil Control Humectant, and Intensive Emollient. If you love our Vegan Rose Daily Moisturizer, then you’re most likely also going to love the Moisture Mousse. Here are the corresponding names for them in the foundation line:
- Rose Daily Moisturizer = Moisture Mousse Foundation
- Oil Control Humectant = Liquid Matte Foundation
- Intensive Emollient = Cream Concealer Foundation
When we make these we use a ratio of five-one, base to powder. So, five parts of what fills your jar of Vegan Moisture Mousse is Vegan Rose Daily Moisturizer, and one part is a loose mineral foundation powder. We hand-blend these until smooth and then fill them into our luxury cream jars, and then make them look pretty, no small feat with natural, organic liquid foundations! To add extra coverage you can top off your organic liquid foundation with the corresponding natural foundation makeup powder in the Monave line. If you have fairly decent skin without any obvious blemishes, the natural cream foundation will adequately cover spider veins, the under-eye area, and natural fluctuations in the color of your skin.
So, what are the differences between the three?
Vegan Moisture Mousse is by far our most popular one of the three. Because it doesn’t use beeswax, it’s fluffier and creates an oil-in-water emulsion, meaning that it dries more quickly on the skin, takes less time to absorb, and overall, has a more matte feel. Its light, fluffy texture is another plus, and falls within the range of what most women like for texture.
The Cream Concealer Foundation is heavier, and is a beeswax formula. It is an excellent choice for women who live in dry climates, such as in the Southwest of the US, or in very cold climates, since the humidity is typically lower. It will very effectively protect the skin from extreme temperatures and dryness, and has strong occulent qualities, meaning, it holds moisture in your skin. It is thicker to spread, and needs the warmth of your fingers and skin of the face in order to spread well, so we do not recommend using a sponge or applicator with this formula. It’s also a very popular choice for under-eye concealer, again, in part, due to the rich botanical formula which provides a rich, nourishing base.
The Liquid Matte formula is created specifically to help balance skin types which have an excess of sebum production. This delicate, organic cream is formulated with hazelnut oil, an astringent oil which will continue working throughout the day to balance your skin, as well as Litsea Cubeba, an essential oil much like tea tree oil, but gentler. Although it is a cream, it’s actually very light and does an excellent job of soothing blemishes and irritation while keeping overactive oil glands at bay. Due to its astringent nature, it is not recommended for use under the eye.
